Muriel Burton

My first introduction to clay and ceramics was at private evening classes in Maidenhead. After retiring from a career in journalism, I moved on to study at Brunel University, attending classes in ceramics and sculpture.

I work mainly in crank and stoneware clays, using oxides, slips and stains to colour the clay, and with matt glaze or smoke fired finishes. Pieces are generally hand-built and sculptural, and currently focused on bird and animal forms, not strictly representational but with a slightly ‘quirky’ approach.

My work has been exhibited in Henley, Uxbridge, Amersham and during Buck’s Art Week at my studio in Bray, near Maidenhead.
